Personal Training

Bonnie and Carol Please contact me to book appointments for September.

My journey with personal training began after I had been practicing and teaching yoga for many years. For some, these two seem at odds. I love them both, and have found that they deepen, inform and complement each other. In fact, i can’t quite imagine them without each other!

Yogic principles help to make strength training safer, more effective, focused and deeply relaxing.  Strength training can bring a wealth of body awareness, specificity, options for progression and regression, inspiration for other kinds of fitness, (eg.  cardiorespiratory), and a more open, questioning approach to health and fitness.

Both can help us feel more graceful, powerful and confident. More in touch with our own body, present to our needs, accepting of whatever it is we are faced with each day.

When we feel strong, the world feels lighter! When we are comfortable and flexible in our bodies, we can also bring that to our daily encounters with all that life brings us. The awareness and compassion we cultivate as we work together becomes a way of living.

Personal training can take place in a gym (using machines and free weights) or in your home (using simple, readily available props and body weight).

Goals can range from:

  • rehabilitation after injury to improving bone density and balance
  • working with chronic pain or muscle imbalance
  • competitive bodybuilding
  • working towards a particular goal such as improving sports performance.

You can work to tone, create sleek muscles or bulk up.  It’s never too early, or too late, to get into your best shape!

A word about “Functional Fitness”

While any movement can be a joy unto itself and needs no other justification, when creating routines, I work with folks with an awareness of what makes sense in their lives.  Individual exercises and workouts are created to help people achieve their goals, based on their abilities, schedules and lifestyles. I try to incorporate whatever we do into your daily life in a way that takes little extra time, and adds the most joy.
